Radio Commercial Project Guidelines

Presentation Date: December 24, 2007

Things that you need to submit on the day of your presentation:
1. 30-sec spot commercial
- 60-sec/15-sec version

2. Script (follow format)
- You need to be clear about the following things:
- themes of the ad
- ad message
- creative approach
* Why did you choose this theme? Why did you choose to produce your commercial this way?
* What is the product/service featured in your commercial?
* Describe the target market.
* Do you think that your ad message addresses the target market? How?

3. Collaborative job list. You need to identify 'who did what'. What was your individual contribution.

I also need to know how you did the radio commercial. Describe to me the process that you all went through in producing your commercial. How was the planning like? Were there any difficulties that you encountered? If yes, what are they? If none, then tell me what you did right that made things go smoothly.

You need to document the production process, meaning you need to write down the steps in producing your commercial.

Presentation guidelines:

1. Group members will play the commercial.
2. You need to present the script. Put this in powerpoint so everyone could see the texts clearly.
3. Describe the ad theme, message, target market, etc. (see project guidelines)
4. Group members will describe the production process. How did you produce the commercial. Please see questions above.
5. Put/save your project materials on a CD. To be submitted on the day of presentation.

There will be an oral presentation. Please try not to be nervous. Remember, what you will be presenting is something that you worked hard for. If you contributed in the production process, then you would probably know what to say.

Regarding the order of production, we will draw lots :-)

Dec. 21 (Thursday)- project preparation. No class.

Monster.com: Practicising VO skills

In this exercise, the students were given a copy of the Monster.com radio commercial script. They were also advised to listen to Yahoo Launch Radio to listen to the commercial. Students used this script to practice their voice over skills. Oral delivery is difficult specially if one has to emote and use different vocal and pitch varieties to get his/her message across for a short period of time. Listening to their work tells me that the students put a lot of effort in doing this VO stint. Thanks guys- you were all great!

A. Each group will create 2 radio commercial studies for the following:

1. Auto Tronics Taipei 2006.

You will be announcing the show exhibit.

Details of the event are available at http://www.autotronicsonline.net/ and brochure is also available in pdf file at http://www.autotronicsonline.net/download/brochure.pdf

2.The opening of Mama Mia’s Italian Restaurant in Mei-Su Guan, Kaohsiung. (You could create a regular commercial with a tagline for the announcement).

B.Based on the 2 studies, prepare 3 variations for each: one 15-second radio commercial, one 30-second commercial, and a 60-sec. commercial.

The more studies you prepare the better.

C: Your group will have to choose the most important information that you will include in your commercial. You should be able to defend your work.

D. Be creative. Make use of your existing or developing talents. Try weaving music and text, or even sound effects.

E. There’s no limit to the number of voice over talents. This will depend on you and your study.

F. You should submit the following on the day of your presentation:

1. A paper that documents the radio scripts for your studies, a brief analysis and explanation of your study (Why you’re doing what you’re doing?).

2. A CD that includes a copy of your:

i. Paper

ii. Radio commercial studies (in mp3) files
